“Remember who you are. You are my son and the one true king.”
This backpack by Loungefly is inspired by the powerful scene in Disney’s The Lion King where a grown Simba, lost and overwhelmed after hearing of the state of Pride Rock, receives one final lesson from his deceased father, Mufasa.
Clouds roll in the night sky, and a ghostly apparition of Mufasa appears within them. “Simba, you have forgotten me,” he states, to which Simba replies he couldn’t have. Mufasa goes on to explain he has forgotten who he is, therefore he has also forgotten his father. He advises Simba to look inside himself as he is more than what he’s become, and urges him that he must take his place in the circle of life. But how can he go back, Simba asks, when he’s not who he used to be? Now bright and bursting with colour, Mufasa’s apparition responds by telling him to remember who he is; “You are my son and the one true king.” His apparition then fades into the distance, leaving Simba with the confidence to face his past and restore life to Pride Rock.
Just like Simba, we learn from this scene to set aside our fears and believe in ourselves. Here, on the front of this vegan-friendly leather backpack, Simba is pictured looking up at Mufasa in disbelief, while light begins to shine through the clouds upon him. Stars are dotted throughout the dreamy purple sky, and the bag’s enamel zipper charm features Simba as a cub, as drawn by Rafiki earlier in the film.
